PRINCIPLES
The creation story in the Bible never ends. “God spoke what to who?” The creation story begins every time someone has ears to hear and eyes to see. The first principle is to listen, really listen. Shut out all the noise, and listen. Do you hear birds singing, do you watch the clouds, are we truly aware of the presence of our own families. Do we know them for who they are? Listen, God Speaks.
The initial creation story continues through chapter 4. Why? Because the second principle is that God speaks to individual within the context of family. We are connected, we are family. In the wilderness, there is no existence without family. You can define family in many ways, but there is only chaos without family.
The third principle is that we live in an orderly universe, and there is security in that universe. If you look at the days of creation, it paints a picture of security and alludes to a wonderful home. The sky is a polished brass firmament that reflects the blue of the seas. In that domed ceiling are placed lights. The word for these lights is "candle." The same word used to describe a candle in a chandelier. Our universe is a cause and effect paradise and we have been given the special ability to unlock its mysteries.
The fourth principle is that we are created to help one another, and to be responsible loving stewards of the universe. There are physical laws and there are human nature laws. A law of human nature is history will eventually be on the side of the oppressed. Those who are first and use their power to prevent the freedom of others will wind up on the dung heap of history. Those who live to help others will know peace and their legacy will be leaving the world a better place than they found it.
The fifth principle is that there is forgiveness. Never give up, as long as there is life there is opportunity. Everyone suffers from insecurity, and we all rationalize and blame others, but we are not slaves to yesterday. Slaves have been and will be set free. Even Cain knew God’s mercy, and other murderers have as well. The mark God put on Cain was placed there to spare his life. Yes his reputation did and should have suffered, but that did not diminish the hope for his future. Indeed, his descendants were intermixed with all the other descendants in their successes and failures.
The over riding principle is that the Word of God Ends Chaos, and the birth of Seth is the climax of that story. All we know about Seth is that he was the third child of Adam and Eve, had a family of his own, and his name. Why? It is all in the name. Have you every asked why does Seth bare the same name as one of the most important Egyptian God’s?
